Description

The South Hadley Children’s Chorus provides girls and boys ages 7 and up from throughout the Pioneer Valley excellent vocal training, helps them learn the value of working together to produce something of beauty, and enables them to gain confidence and poise by performing on stage in a number of different venues. The SHCC is meant to give talented singers an opportunity to explore their musical gifts beyond what is available to them in their schools. The group performs every March as part of the South Hadley Chorale’s annual concert at Abbey Chapel and does two or three other concerts during their “season” (mid-September through late April).

The SHCC is divided into two groups, more or less by age, performing both separately and sometimes also combined. East Choir (grades 2-4) & West Choir (grades 4-9) rehearse Wednesday afternoons at All Saints Episcopal Church, South Hadley, from September thru mid-May.

Members can expect excellent vocal instruction, age-appropriate songs drawn from many cultural traditions, structured rehearsals, fun & friendship! Annual Tuition (in 2013): $175. Payment plans and scholarships available. Auditions: Children are tested for their ability to read words and match pitches. Older children wishing to join West Choir will also be asked to clap or speak simple rhythmic notation and hold their part in a round.
