Description

The Chorus is known for its broad repertoire, including the world and North American premieres of new choral works; for the quality of its performances; and for its diverse and varied membership. We are a welcoming organization; singers of all ages from the Cambridge area and beyond—regardless of their musical training or experience—can join our group without audition.

The Chorus performs two concerts per year. Major works performed in recent years include Brahms's German Requiem, Mozart's "Coronation" Mass, Bach's Cantata 61, Ariel Ramirez's Navidad Nuestra, Ralph Vaughan Williams's Dona Nobis Pacem, Poulenc's Gloria, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Cherubini's Requiem in C minor, Brahms's Schicksalslied, Mendelssohn's Die Erste Walpurgisnacht, a revival of Hiawatha's Wedding Feast by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, the world premiere of Oscar-winning composer Luis Bacalov's Cantos Para Nuestros Tiempos: The Cambridge Psalms (commissioned by the Chorus), and Handel's Messiah.

The Chorus also strives to engage and enrich the musical life of Cambridge throughout the year. In 2013, the Chorus was honored to be a part of a benefit concert to honor and support those affected by the Boston Marathon bombing. Other past community performances include the "Glimpse Beyond" celebration at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, the Boom Town Festival in East Cambridge, and the Joyful Noise gospel concert at Sanders Theatre. The Chorus also participates in the annual Holocaust Commemoration. In 2010, the Chorus started its own annual public Messiah sing when not performing the piece in concert, and has performed Messiah selections at local nursing facilities during the holiday season.
