Welcome!

The choral events calendar (launched on November 27, 2012) is a list of choral performances and other events of interest to choruses and choral singers in New England. Click on the calendar icon iCal to the left of an entry to download the event to your calendar.

New in Nov 2016: Type into the Filter by chorus name box just before the listings to limit the display to only chorus names that match. Add or delete characters to restrict or expand the search. Filtering with that box happens "live" on the current page, without submitting a form. It's a great way to quickly find listings for one performer. Also: Navigation buttons scroll quickly to the first listing for each month. To scroll back, click the up-arrow (↑) in the blue controller box pinned to the bottom of the screen.

You may limit the events displayed by Dates, Location, or Search criteria by using the blue form in the upper left. To find events near a certain location, fill in "Within __ miles of ___": enter the distance (may be zero) and place name (e.g., Boston, MA) or Zip code.

Search basics: Enter a word or phrase in the 🔍 Search field to find events with matching descriptions. Precede with "C:" to search for a chorus name (e.g., C:Valley finds all choruses with the word "Valley" in the name); precede with "L:" to search for a venue or place name. Precede with "A:" or a dot to search all (description, name & location). To search for any of several terms, separate by a bar (e.g., Mahler|Mozart will find any events with either Mahler or Mozart). Search is normally case-insensitive and matches whole words. For case-sensitive search, precede the term with slash (/Valley or S:/Valley). To match part of a word, precede or follow text with "..." (Mo... matches both "Mozart" and "moderate"). Double-click on the search icon for a resume of the above.

Listings are archived every year (each "season" beginning in September). Browse or search archived listing by using the "past year" pulldown in the search box (which includes an option to select all past years).

Convenient bookmarkable links for one or more states can be constructed using the state abbreviations in any order; for example:

  • www.choralarts-newengland.org/Calendar/MA shows only events in Massachusetts, and
  • www.choralarts-newengland.org/Calendar/CTVTMA includes only Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont.

You can construct a link to a specific city or town or for a given distance from that place as "www.choralarts-newengland.org/Calendar/state/city/distance". For example, "www.choralarts-newengland.org/Calendar/MA/Boston" shows only events in Boston, and "www.choralarts-newengland.org/Calendar/MA/Boston/10" shows events within 10 miles of Boston. Use underscores for spaces (New Haven is written New_Haven).

If a performance is repeated, all of the repeat listings are highlighted when the cursor hovers over the event time. Hold the highlighting by clicking once on the event time; you can then scroll to find the repeat performances. If there's a down-arrow (↓) following an event, click on it to go to the next event by that performer. Generate a direct link to any event by double-clicking on the event time; the time becomes a link, which can be copied and pasted.

Click on the "information" symbol ⓘ to visit the performer's listing in the Choral Arts New England Chorus Directory.

Use the blue controller box in the lower right corner of the screen to simplify the listings. Click the "Hide descriptions" checkbox to show only title & place (reveal a hidden description by double-clicking the event title). Click "One-Line" to show only the first line of each event (click and hold the mouse button down on an event to reveal the rest). Click "Collapse dates" to hide all events (click on any date to show/hide events for that date). Use the up-arrow (↑) to quickly scroll to the top.

Follow new calendar submissions with our RSS feed, which lists events in the order they were submitted. The RSS lists one entry per event, even if the event occurs more than once. Like the calendar, the feed may be customized to include only one state or combination of states. For example, /Calendar/rss/MA follows only events in Massachusetts.

All are welcome to submit appropriate events for inclusion by completing the submission form. Submissions are reviewed by a moderator shortly after receipt. Submissions are often edited for brevity and consistency of format. A promotional flier may be uploaded with the event; all fliers are available for download at the event's listing. Fliers will also be randomly chosen for display at the top of the calendar (those with file size smaller than 150 kB will look best; larger files will be reduced for display).
