Description

An ensemble of women singing a diverse repertoire for treble voices, from the 15th century to the present. We strive to introduce works that audiences are unlikely to hear elsewhere, pieces composed by women, and newly commissioned music. Performances are held every December and May at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist, 630 Mass Ave, in Arlington Center.

Cantilena was founded in 1968 as the Cambridge Chorale, an ensemble of mixed (SATB) voices. In 1980 the group became a women's chorus, and in 2000 we changed our name to Cantilena to more appropriately reflect our identity as women's chorale. The name means, at its simplest level, a song, or a style of music where the melody is in the treble line.

Cantilena holds auditions for experienced singers in all voice parts (SSAA) each semester - check our website for Sept and Jan open audition dates.
