Chorus description
(membership, repertoire, etc):
The Braintree Choral Society was formed in 1923 when a small group of music lovers gathered at the home of Cora Gooch Brooks intent on forming a society to "train men and women in the art of choral singing; to provide an opportunity for the enjoyment and appreciation of good music; and to present concerts for the public benefit." The meeting was a success and the Braintree Choral Society was born! Braintree Choral Society thrived under the leadership of Ms. Brooks. A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, she served as the Music Director for an amazing 35 years until her death in 1966. With her guidance, and that of the talented Directors who have followed her, BCS has performed many well-known works, including "The Pilgrim's Chorus, "Carmine Burana", "The Creation", "The Messiah", Brahm's "A German Requiem", op. 54, and Mendelsshon's "St. Paul." We are a non-audition community chorus made up of members from the South Shore and surrounding area. We rehearse every Tuesday during the concert season, which runs from September through May. We perform two concerts a year -- one in December and one in May. New members can join the chorus during the first two weeks of rehearsals in September and the first two weeks of rehearsals in January. All voice parts are welcome!
