Our annual Bach collaboration with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra features a solo cantata for four singers (Cantata 151, "Süsser Trost, mein Jesus kömmt"); Cantata 70, "Wachet! Dr. Zullinger’s doctoral studies about the music of composer Charles Fussell culminated in a recording project with 16 CONCORA singers, recording the music of Mr. Fussell and composers who influenced him. CONCORA revisits that experience in a live performance, presenting these works in the wonderful acoustics of Bethany Covenant Church. A reception with the composer follows. iCal 4:00 PM. CONCORA [CT]: Art and Music. To celebrate the recent renovation of the Wadsworth Atheneum, CONCORA presents a program whose repertoire is inspired by the artwork itself. Small ensembles sing in the galleries with music related to the artworks in each room—choral music of Claude Debussy alongside Impressionist paintings, colonial songs by William Billings near art by 18th century American artists, and more, including the premiere of a commissioned choral work by Connecticut composer Ellen Gilson Voth inspired by paintings of the Hudson River School, including Connecticut-born artist Frederic Church.
