Chorus description:
The Area Choir is a non-auditioned community Christmas choir, now in its 70th year, that performs three concerts of sacred and secular Christmas music the first weekend in December. The choir’s selections are drawn from a variety of music genre, interspersed with time for the audience to join with choir and organ in singing traditional Christmas carols. Seven weekly rehearsals are held on Sunday evenings, from mid-October through the end of November, with a dress rehearsal on the Friday evening of concert weekend. The 2023 rehearsals begin October 15 from 4 to 6 PM and will continue each Sunday through November 26. The dress rehearsal is Friday, December 1 at 7 PM and concerts are December 2 at 7:30 PM and December 3 at 3:30 & 7:30 PM. Masks are welcome but not required. Rehearsals and concerts are held in the beautiful, historic setting of South Congregational Church, 20 Church Street in Newport, New Hampshire. There are no fees or auditions to belong to the choir. The Area Choir is supported through business and individual donations, grants, and a free-will offering at each concert. Members come from many area towns and cities, and audience attendance is just as far-reaching. The Area Choir gives adults and teens who love singing the opportunity to join their voices in an uplifting and joyous musical gift from the choir to the community.
