Seeking Bass Soloist/Section Leader
Old North Festival Chorus and Old North Church, Marblehead MA
Old North Church and the Old North Festival Chorus in Marblehead are currently holding auditions for the position of bass soloist/section leader for the 2026 -2027 September - May season.
Sunday Services include a 9am warm-up; 10am service: $125 fee; Mid-week rehearsals are $100. There is additional compensation for Special Services and concerts throughout the year.
There is one Sunday off per month.
The choir is comprised of approximately 25 (wonderful!) volunteers and 4 professional, well seasoned section leaders. The rep includes standard SATB sacred choral works as well as contemporary, gospel, jazz and solo/chamber works from many genres.
Excellent sight-reading skills are required.
Mid-week rehearsals are Wednesdays, 7:30 -9:00, and until 9:30 closer to concert performances. No mid-week rehearsals in January. There is flexibility regarding weekday rehearsals.
The church job is unique in that it doubles as the section leader/soloist for the Old North Festival Chorus, which is a 100 - voice community chorus that performs with an orchestra twice per year. The orchestra includes many of Boston's finest freelance artists.
Our soloists lead their respective sections during Wednesday evening rehearsals and concerts. They also have the opportunity to perform solo repertoire from large choral works with orchestral accompaniment. Concert fees are separate from the church contract.
Marblehead is a beautiful coastal community 20 miles from Boston. The sanctuary at Old North is an acoustic gem and hosts concerts throughout the year.
