Handel: "Tyrants now no more shall dread" from Hercules; William Steffe: “Battle Hymn of the Republic”; Moses Hogan: “We Shall Walk Through the Valley in Peace”; John Rosamond Johnson: “Lift Every Voice and Sing”. Scott Allen Jarrett, conductor; Justin Blackwell, organ. On January 1, 1863, the day the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Lincoln, members of the Handel and Haydn Society sang a program of celebration at the Music Hall on Winter Street. On this anniversary of the signing, H+H presents a Jubilee Day Concert in partnership with the Museum of African American History. Remarks by Marita Rivero, Executive Director, Museum of African American History; readings from the Emancipation Proclamation by Regie Gibson. Free admission, open to all.
