iCal 4:00 PM. GMChorale [CT]: Jepthe. Giacomo Carissimi: Jephte. With other choral gems of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Jephte, an historical exemplar of the mid 17th Century oratorio, is based on the story of Jephthah in the Old Testament Book of Judges. Carissimi established much of what is now considered traditional to the Baroque oratorio, including the use of a narrator linking vocal soloists and the chorus, with the alternation of recitatives and arias.
