4:00 PM. Boston Cecilia [MA]: Prophecy. During his time here, Antonin Dvořák forecast that the US would produce a classical music tradition that was truly its own. This concert explores the complex history of how that prophecy came to be heeded by some and shunned by others. Works by Dvorak and his mentor Brahms form the backdrop, followed by music from Black and white composers, including Amy Beach, Aaron Copland, Nathaniel Dett, Charles Ives, Rosephayne Powell, Zanaida Robles, George Walker, and others.
